My name is Mrs. Laroche and I will be the Resource Classroom
and Inclusion teacher for this year. I believe I bring a unique
perspective to the problems your child faces because I too have
a learning disability (my disability is in math) and I have Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I can remember feeling like I was “stupid”
because I didn’t understand what the teacher was talking about. I was
afraid to ask questions because I thought the other kids would think I
Even though I was not very good at math, I did succeed, and that is one
of the most important lessons I would like to teach your child. At least once
a month I will introduce the students to a successful person who also has some
sort of learning disability. One of the people I will discuss is Steven Spielberg,
the director/producer of such movies as: “Jaws”, “E.T.”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”,
“Jurassic Park” and the cartoon movies “Land Before Time” and “Oliver and
Company”, and the T.V. show “Falling Skies”. Steven Spielberg was always a
poor student, barely making grades good enough to pass. He had an especially
hard time in math. Hopefully, learning about successful people with learning
disabilities will help your child feel a little better about themselves and their ability
to succeed in life.
Parents are always welcome to visit or observe my classroom, but please sign in
with the front desk before coming to the classroom. I will not be able to talk to
you during classroom instruction, but you are welcome to observe. You can
also contact me by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. My conference period is
currently from 11:15-12:00 am.
I look forward to working with your child and having a great time this year.
