Welcome to the Nurse's Office!
My name is Miriam Carmichael. I was born and raised in Indiana, but have traveled quite a bit, including Mexico, Europe, and South America, and have lived in several different states. After getting my degree in Biology from Indiana University in 1980 I taught English and lived in Peru, South America for 2 years. When I returned to the U.S., I studied Nursing at the University of Alabama. I have been a Registered Nurse since 1986. For most of the past 30 years I have worked in hospitals all over the United States in various ICU settings and have been a full time School Nurse in El Paso since 2004.
I love being a School Nurse! My main objective is to help your children stay as healthy as possible so that they can learn, grow, and meet their highest potential. As the School Nurse I have many responsibilities. I take care of sick and injured students, staff, and visitors. I also administer medications and perform medical procedures as ordered by the doctor, provide first aid and emergency care. I administer the state mandated vision, hearing, and pre-diabetes screenings, and maintain health and immunization records. As a mother/nurse I comfort children who are hurt or scared, and even sew their pants when they get ripped. I consider Health education and promotion a very important part of my job. I will always try to give your children the care and attention that I would wish for my own children.
